31 Days of Devotion, Day 2 by Jacob Burson

Daily Reading: Genesis 12: 1-3

The older I get, the more I appreciate comfortable things. Like my flex-fit khakis and jeans and Hoka shoes that feel like couches on my feet.  So many other comforts I have and the comfort I'm partial to - but try to fight off -is the comfort of the predictable. There's great comfort in thinking I know how my day, my week, my month, and my future is going to go. I have to remind myself that true contentment and blessings from God are most often found in the middle of discomfort.

Abram was being called to leave all that was predictable and comfortable and go into the uncomfortable unknown. God tells Abram that when he walks in that discomfort He will bless him, and then Abram will bless the world. I'd prefer to be blessed first and clearly know where God is leading me out of the gate. This scripture is a great reminder that God works in ways upside down to how we might prefer this world to work.

Like Abram, we've been blessed to give God the glory and be a blessing to others. May we leave some of our abundant comforts and see that those who are hurting can benefit from the blessings God has given us. It’s in this spirit that we get to come along beside groups like LIVE2540 and help lift up and care for the children in difficult places.  The blessing we can find together is that in loving these beautiful children we also show love to Jesus who has shown so much love to us.

Daily Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for inviting me into your work of blessing. Forgive me when I get stuck focusing on myself and my comforts because it often causes me to miss how you desire to work through me for your glory and the blessing of others. Help me to LOVE Him and LOVE them. Amen.
