31 Days of Devotion, Day 27 by Mandi Cullifer

Daily Reading: Philippians 2: 1-11

When you think of people who inspire you to live like Jesus, who comes to mind?  My thoughts turn to friends whose walk with Christ is evident in how they treat others.

I think of friends who open their homes to children by fostering or adoption, missionaries who give up all familiar comforts to bring the Gospel to people who otherwise wouldn’t know Jesus, and people who give their time and money faithfully and quietly, with servant hearts.I think of those who take steps of faith in their own life for the sake of serving others and those who shine for Him by encouraging people in their normal routines.

I think of organizations like Live2540, whose sole purpose is to love others and make Christ known. “Love Him, love them.”

All these people look beyond themselves to consider the needs of others.
In Philippians 2:3-5 Paul writes, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others.  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”

That is not easy to do! It can only come from love. Not love that we well up on our own, but love that pours through us from God.  It’s His love that touches people when we reach outside of ourselves to help others.  It’s His love that can transform and save.
Jesus is our ultimate example.  He went all the way to the cross for us.  How far will we go to care for His children and make Him known?

Daily Prayer
Lord Jesus, you consistently acted for the well-being of others and the glory of your heavenly Father. Grant me grace to follow your example in the manner in which I treat others. Amen.
