31 Days of Devotion, Day 29 by Tess Womack

Daily Reading: Ephesians 2: 8-10

Over the last year, I’ve been overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of love the Lord has placed in my heart for young people. While their struggles and hardships are profound, I’m often astounded by their honest questions and ability to grasp biblical truths. I recently overheard a girl sharing on the subject matter of grace. She had experienced it firsthand when genuine conviction over her sin had overwhelmingly engulfed her. Keeping the sin a secret was eating her alive, and so she took the plunge and confessed the sin to her parents. Fully expecting the consequences that were sure to come, she was shocked when they looked at her and simply said, “We love you. We forgive you.” Their sincere forgiveness struck her and caused her to see the gospel of grace in a greater way.

There is nothing like being faced with the heavy reality of our own sin that opens our eyes to the kindness of Christ. It is in these moments when the realization that Jesus did not wait until we got our act together before coming to our rescue that humanity can be humbled. We see more clearly that we are incapable of salvation through works and rejoice over salvation through grace alone. The authentic response to this radical truth is worship.
When we truly know Him, we inevitably worship Him.
The more we worship Him, the more we love Him.
The more we love Him, the more compelled we are to obey Him and walk in the good works He has called us to.

Friends, love Him. Love them.

Daily Prayer
Dear God, you have done for me what I could not do for myself. Thank you for the grace you have shown me and for the gift of faith. Help me see how I can share the good news of your love with others. Amen.
