31 Days of Devotion, Day 23 by Neal Black

Daily Reading: Acts 10:1-43

In Acts 10, we see God working in every situation. This passage shows God's love to those who fear him (vs. 1-2) and delineates our freedom in Christ from strict food laws (vs. 15) as well as God showing Peter He is impartial to people (vs.34). Also, this text allows us to survey the beautiful handiwork of our loving Father in the way he takes care of His children, allowing Peter to be a tool in God's plan for Cornelius, stirring both men to deeper faith (vs. 45). Why send Cornelius running around a city? Why doesn't the angel just share the gospel with him?  God planned it out that a man and his household would need to hear a message from Peter, who was just given a heavenly perspective of all people.  Prior to Peter's presentation of the gospel, Cornelius did not know that Christ is Lord of all, and prior to Peter’s vision, he did not believe that all men deserved the gospel. Cornelius hears the truth of the gospel according to God's best plan.  It is amazing how God cares for those whom He loves and He brings to pass His purposes for His people.  There were many divine interventions recorded to get Cornelius the gospel of Jesus Christ. Those same divine interventions, which I like to call “God’s thumbprints,” are happening all around us. He is sending you, calling you, or giving you the ability to help those in need next door, at work, or around the world.  Hear His voice, know His heart, and join His work as He “…works all things for the good of those who love Him, those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Daily Prayer
I thank you, Lord, for the call in Christ. Thank you that I can believe in your Son, my Savior and my Lord. I ask that you open my eyes and heart to be Your hands, feet, and mouth as Peter was to Cornelius. Let me not be selfish or lazy with my gifts, but willing to lose it all for You and Your kingdom. Amen.
