31 Days of Devotion, Day 7 by Zach Brown

Daily Reading: Isaiah 53:1-2

Contemplating Isaiah's prophecy about the crucifixion of God, who willingly assumed human form, descended to earth, walked among His creation, and ultimately endured the cross, evokes profound wonder. It invites us to reflect on the purpose and value of our daily pursuits.

Isaiah's ability to envision such a profound revelation from God makes one pause. It prompts us to consider the depth of his communion and prayer life. He was undoubtedly chosen as a vessel to convey a crucial message, yet he also assumed responsibility for attuning his heart and spirit to God's voice.

I recall a concept shared by my Spiritual Director—an insight into God's omnipotence and His gracious endowment of free will to us. God, in His sovereignty, possesses the capacity to do anything independent of our actions. Yet, He entrusts us with the remarkable gift of self-determination, aka free will. This revelation inspired my friend to view each day as an invitation to surrender his own will and embrace God's divine guidance.

The challenge arises not as a one-time commitment, like a proclamation at youth camp, but as a daily, ongoing choice. It's about letting go of our own desires and embracing God's plans for our lives. Isaiah, who prophesied the image of a suffering God, exemplified such radical obedience. He prioritized God's will over his own.

As we start our day, let's ask ourselves, "Am I prepared to wholeheartedly follow God's path? Am I willing to embrace humility over prominence? Can I release my own desires and align with His?" This might manifest as dedicating our resources to alleviate malnutrition in Africa instead of indulging in yet another streaming subscription or as simple as choosing peace over conflict with a family member.

Certainly, embracing His will can be challenging at times, but it assures us of an abundant life—a life in harmony with the divine purpose.

Daily Prayer
Loving God, at times, it is hard for us to embrace Your will over ours. In the coming days, prepare your people for your gracious action. Help us to be faithful in sharing with others your sacrificial LOVE. Amen.
